Trade Up Game #2: 1945 Mercury Dime!

1945 mercury dime

Look what I just received in the mail! A 1945-S silver Mercury Dime!

Sent in by one Matt R. as part of our trade up game :) Which means that:

  1. the game is working so far (thanks Matt!)
  2. this sexy dime is now up for grabs! Anyone want to trade for it?

A couple weeks ago I thought it would be fun to start with a lower valued coin and see if we can keep trading up until we’re left with one bigger, awesomer, coin in the end. Specifically a $20  St. Gaudens Gold Double Eagle (mmmmm…). I don’t know how long it’ll take for this goal to actually happen, but so far I’d say we’re off to a great start :)

Here’s the nickle we started with in case you missed it:

no date buffalo nickel

I pegged it around 50¢ to $1.00 (probably 50¢), so now we move up to the $3.00 range w/ the dime – Woo! That’s a 600% trade up!

Here’s the note that came with the dime:

Officially known as a “Winged Liberty Head” it’s more commonly known as a “Mercury” dime – due to the likeness of the Roman god of Mercury, messenger of the gods and god of roads and travel, commerce, property, and wealth. They were produced from 1916-1945, and all contain 0.07234 oz. of pure silver. Worth approximately $1.52 on metal alone (as of today’s silver rates)

I think this belongs in your collection, don’t you? ;)

Big thanks again to Matt R. for having some fun with us and believing in the mission… Let’s see what comes in next!
